My Stroke of Insight

Jill Bolte Taylor, My Stroke of Insight: A Brian Scientist's Personal Journey, (New York: Plume), 2009.

My Stroke of Insight
I have a friend, who, like Jill Bolte Taylor, experienced a stroke 20 years ago and has had an up and down journey of recovery. Two distinctive qualities make Taylor's journey exceptional. First of all, she was a trained brain scientist before the stroke and had the capacity and understanding to document what happened to her in a unique way with remarkable insight. Secondly, she is an excellent writer, who is able to paint verbal pictures that take here readers along for the right with her

Like other scientists and researchers who have faced major medical events, Taylor experienced some of the frustration with doctors that others have also experienced. She also discovered that the events of her stroke opened her to new ways of thinking and understanding the events of her life.

I've been meaning to read this book for several years. I'm glad I didn't put it off any longer.
